The Forgotten Secret

I will tell you a story of old, a secret long forgotten by regutian kind, a prophecy that foretold the destruction of the very balance of life.

The shadow giants.

The shadow giants are possibly the first regutian species ever discovered due to the fact that they were as tall as men.  They were different from the kind that Prof. Shneiderson discovered.  They had three spides on each arm, they weren't sharp, the spikes were just for show.  They also had short legs.

Long ag they lived in ancient times alongside the humans and beasts alike, living whereever they could find solitude.  They neither liked, nor cared for any life, but their own.  Some though, were actually caring and kind, helping whenever possible.  Most were always longing to be the most powerful of all creatures, even more powerful than the humans despite their ability to blend with shadows.

Then one day...  They got their wish....

A fallen star struck the earth in a location no one has ever been able to find except the shadow giants.  Since that day the shadow giants got smarter, stronger, and even bigger! The spikes on their arms grew sharp, no longer just for show.  The were also stronger than oxen and as big as the one-eyed giants from myth.

The ones who rejected this incredible power either were banished, left to the side of the humans, or killed...

They started making weapons like the humans, armor to protect themselves, sudden invasions against the human civilizations, marching like human soldiers, beating them with their awesome strength and size.  Even the best soldiers from a strong kingdom stood no chance against them.  Sorcerers from all but two of the orders, earth, water, balance, and light tried to stop the terrifying shadows, but with no sucsess.

There seemed no hope in defeating them.

Then there was a glimmer of hope when in one of the cities, the giants that joined the humans had a plan.  The plan was to emit their infamous screech that they usually only made when they were hurt or injured.  Although the humans could not understand them, the giants seemed to be intelligent enough to write in the human's language to tell them this plan of theirs.

They formed a circle and screeched in unison around the city.  The enemy couldn't stand the high-pitched noise and covered their seemingly non-existing ears.

What was once their strength as normal shadow giants to call for help whenever hurt now was their Achilles' heel.

The enemy fled from that city and never returned.

Soon word spread 'round the cities in danger of invasion of the shadow giants on how to repel them.  Every time the enemy shadows tried to take over a city that knew of this knowledge, they would be immediately forced back by the screeching of their own kind.

The humans even convinced the normal shadow giants to help them take back the captive cities held by the enemy giants.

The enemy eventually gave up; leaving all the cities they conquered and headed back to whatever homes they could find.

The humans didn't think it was enough.

They tried to find the shadow giants that had not joined their side and destroy them.  Few were ever caught.

The shadow giants on the human's side did not approve of this.  They left for their own homes, leaving the cities they were in defenseless against enemy shadow giants.

None came to attack...  Nor did the friendly shadow giants ever return.

The shadow giants have not been seen since that day...

Some people think they were wiped out.  Others say they're still in hiding, lurking around to see if there is any way to take over a city, or find a way to live among the humans as they did back in ancient times.

Whatever the reason, there is a prophecy that the shadow giants will return, and their conquering madness will be worse than ever...

Who will save us then?
